/me asks the dangerous question....

If you could change one thing about the city of Laura, be it building, rules, laws, what have you, what would it be?

I would change the textures on the Smyth, bakery and merchant buildings to match the textures of the rest of the City. I actually have most of the City used textures in inventory right now and as long as it is for the City, I work for free... hint, hint...

Oh... I know you said *one* thing but another comes to mind for your consideration. I would put small round platform or turrets on the outer corners of the City walls. As it is now, panthers can run up against the wall and you can't see or shoot them. They can set fires or whatever and there is nothing you can do about it from up on the wall. Shocked

Well I already got my wish with two new Green, so....

At least sorta realistic:

A TP from the market to the residential area. Maybe only accessible to those wearing a Citizens tag.

Total fantasy:

Vulo. Like, a little flock of vulo running around the square.

omg... <3 vulo!!

I think I would have to say the build too, now that we're linked up the town can grow without losing much in the way of landscape, the thing that I wouldn't change though would have to be the main layout of the square. (Bigger tavern, more shops?)

I love you Romantic gardens I love you to take a stroll through, a place that offers a little privacy and tranquility from the hubbub of city life while remaining in the shelter of civilization. Add a residential sim, and change our current cottage area to a pretty, secret garden to escape into and dream up our next fun roleplays cat

A parking lot for carts, pulled by hilarious kajirae. So they haven’t to park their kajirii somewhere in the tree tops anymore. *grins at Adora*

No, serious: I tried several times, but I’m not able to set a landmark into the city. The possibility to teleport directly into the city would be great. Maybe that spot could be behind a building, so it doesn’t disturb the roleplay.

Easier teleport at the market - make the signs teleporters (i have tpers if you need em) get rid of the residential area (/me ducks) since there isn't enough, and expand the city over or make that the 'garden' area. Smack another sim to the side of Meadowlands and make it the Estate (i know, not realistic, but hey, i can imagine). geek

How about just the easier teleport direction at the market? Smile

Javier, find the place you want to teleport into and set it as your "Home" landmark. You should then be able to TP right to that spot from anywhere in SL.

Anyone that has been to my new house know I've got this *thing* for a realistic nature look. With that said if I could change something about Laura it would be the grass and tree.

To me the grass is waay too green, too bright. I've found the darker grasses (Like those from Botanica) seem to *really* makes things look more rich and realistic. I'd also really like to see more trees, I feel like Laura is very bare.

As close as we are to the Northern Forest I guess I'd like to see the outside of Laura and even the inside hold a little but of the beautiful dark forest look. Large dark trees, big oaks similar in style to the tree in the center of the square maybe with leaves on the ground. Shade has some beautiful lanterns that are 5 prims that would be beautiful hanging from the oaks around town here and there. Smile

I like the garden idea as well Smile

Oh, and the path up to the baths needs to be fixed... it's a stuggle to get up it and looks... Wink

Trees take up lots o prims - and the ones from Botanical are sculpties - all sculpties make the sim lag No
not fun. I think SL should dedicate 2 servers per island and get rid of lag Wink

I think Laura just needs to be a bit darker, and include just a touch more of some of those things that were in the books, like a warehouse on the docks, a lumber mill, and so on (i.e. places for those secret and sinister meetings, somewhere to promote the woodcutter’s caste, or even the builder’s caste, for furniture and the like). I love some of Snowflake’s suggestions for more trees, darker terrain textures, and so on. If, as Ari says, this is Gor’s Tombstone, then I think Laura, as it is now, is a touch too bright and colourful, a bit too idyllic. It needs just that little bit more of an edge to it.

As an aside, the top of the city walls could use some thought. The textures here are stretched and blurred, and the transparent areas can be a pain when shooting down to targets close to them – you can only just make out where the solid prim is.

We get a LOT of travellers, including FW, and while the tavern is great for kajirae and men, I think we should have an Inn of some form where visitors can stay... since most do hang around for a few days, or even become citizens.

I would have to argue this change for the simple fact that you never see totally matching buildings in a city and especially one that would have grown erratically as Laura would have. I like the contrast of textures and the roughness of the work buildings as they would be something tossed up and not so formal as the main structures. Since when does Tombstone have all the buildings coordinated? Smile

Since there isn't room right now for Isobel's garden, could there be some blankets or cushions out in the 'green' for seperate conversations apart from the pavilion? Or even benches...something to utilize that area a bit more when there aren't larger events going on?

Just my two tarsk bit worth...

So do I... it's that 90-second nervewracking walk from the boat to the safety of the city walls that gets to me. I don't mind the market at all. Very Happy

affraid

NUUUUUUUU!!!!!

/me waits for the dock to rez, slowly camming around to see if anyone lies in wait. She gathers her heavy robes in both hands, lifting them from her feet, knees bent slightly as she prepares to sprint across the worn wooden planks to the gates. With a burst of speed she careens wildly around bystanders, skidding to a stop only when she's passed not only the gates but at least one person with a weapon who would be able to intervene if anyone should happen to be in pursuit.

.....seriously, one time I got turned around in the marketplace and accidentally took the tp for the NW. I about died when I found myself not only standing in the middle of the forest, but on the exact opposite side of the gates. I don't wear my minimap so I don't know if anyone was out there... I didn't stop to see. I've never run so fast in my life.

I'll tell you what I'd hate to start seeing, people suddenly tping in all over the main square. So if you set a tp point for home, please to it at the boat so that we don't suddenly have avs dropping out of thin air into the middle of rp. It's horribly distracting and I find it rude. If you don't want to walk up from the boat (man how lazy are you? heh) then over by the afk houses so you're shielded from view by the admin building. But really just dropping in shouldn't be allowed.

I love Adora's garden idea, but I don't think I'd want more trees in the main square. I like how open it is. I agree the textures on the buildings should not match, because what city does? It's not realistic. And yes of course I'd love to see lag reduced so that I could move easily like I did in the early days, but I figure it's all part of being the busiest city in Gor so I'm not quite willing to sacrifice the quality of the build for it.

One thing I really really want to see is people stop congregating right in front of the gates so that I have to shove past Free and kick slaves out of my way when entering or leaving the city. It's like those people at walmart that walk in the door and suddenly stop right there blocking the way of everyone else that wants to get in the door. Too bad I can't shove past them or kick them out of the way grumbling like a cranky FW as I go. Smile
